About Greta Wagle
An independent researcher with a unique record of achievement in her field, Greta Wagle currently works on the Onrust Project, an organization dedicated to the reconstruction and promotion of the famous early 17th-century ship built by Dutch sailors in New York Harbor. Raised in Belgium, Ms. Wagle earned a master of arts in Dutch and English linguistics and literature and has completed graduate programs in education and advanced French studies from the Catholic University of Leuven in Flanders. Following periods as a teacher in Belgium and the United States, Greta Wagle began a prolific career in independent research, working with a number of historical societies in New York, editing three encyclopedias, and leading extensive projects on Dutch and New Netherland history.
Today, Greta Wagle oversees the ongoing development of the Onrust Project, through which she and her colleagues rebuilt the Onrust, the first yacht constructed in America. Completed in 2009, the Onrust made its maiden voyage that same year and is presently docked at the Harbor Visitor Center in Waterford, New York.
